The Social Season
Monday, February 14th, 2011Longer days and warmer temperatures mean that spring is approaching quickly. As the blustery days of winter draw to a close and spring is upon us, it also means another season of lively socializing. Spring brings formal events for all ages, giving women young and old a chance to get dressed up and show their shining selves to the world.
For this week’s Style File, we will be addressing formal styles as they pertain to ladies of youth.
First, being young gives you the perfect excuse to have fun with fashion. You have plenty of time later on to wear serious clothing…take this time to express your creative, quirky, crazy, fun-loving self! Just make sure that you are willing to proudly own the looks you put together, especially if there is a chance that others won’t quite understand your fashion statement.
Not so brave? Maybe you will want to opt for looks that are a bit more conservative, but still highly fashionable. Regardless, make sure you pick a color or combination of colors that allow your skin, hair and eyes to positively glow. Another key is fit. The last thing you want to worry about is having a dress that is too tight or too loose. You want to be able to sit down comfortably and bust a move (not a seam) if you are attending a dance. So choose a dress that fits tastefully and shows off your curves while still leaving something to the imagination. A good tailor and a bit of body tape can really help things stay in place.
Finally, don’t forget all the finishing touches that make a look complete. If your dress is a show-stopper, keep your accessories simple. If you have chosen a simple dress, make a statement piece of jewelry your focal point. Either way, you’ll look stunning. Shoes and handbag can make or break any outfit so make sure yours fit the style of the dress as well as event you are attending. Hair and makeup are also very important when finishing your ensemble. Whether you want a formally styled “up-do” or just a polished version of your everyday look, stay true to your personal style.
Just remember that there will most likely be lots of photos taken of your special event. You will want to look back on these times and share them with your family, friends and future family so be proud and give that camera your best smile! It is your time to shine. You’ll look great and create wonderful memories in the process!
